about

TSAKAPA CHATASHU was commissioned by Musiqa for its 2014 outdoor concert in Market Square Park in Houston. The title is a combination of a few of the nonsensical but percussive syllables the percussionist performs in addition to playing the cajón. The entire work can be understood as an attempt by the percussionist to keep the saxophonist under control, with varying degrees of success.
