about

6 pieces by emerging composers commissioned by Musiqa, 2014-2021

The creation of new work is central to Musiqa's mission. We've commissioned music from a wide range of national and international composers, including Sebastian Currier, Raphaèle Biston, Trevor Weston and Laura Schwendinger, along with multiple new works by the four composers who lead our organization. But nothing is more important to us than supporting those lesser- known emerging composers shaping the music of tomorrow - and especially those making work in our hometown.

Since its founding in 2002, Musiqa has performed the works of nearly 300 living composers, including over seventy world premieres, across the Houston area and beyond. The six composers on this album are part of a tradition that we're deeply proud of, and one that we look forward to continuing for many years. We're grateful to them for contributing their talent to this collection, and grateful to you for supporting it. Find out more about us at www.musiqa.org, and stay tuned for Volume 2!
